VASER® LipoSelection® Vs. Traditional Liposuction
Liposuction is one of the top five most popular plastic surgery procedures in the nation, and many patients choose the innovative body contouring method to help enhance their silhouette and reduce excess fat. The VASER® LipoSelection® technology allows qualified candidates to remove pockets of fat resistant to diet and exercise from almost anywhere on the body or the neck. But how is this procedure different from traditional liposuction?
For both liposuction and VASER® LipoSelection®, a thin cannula (tube) is inserted under the skin into the target area. A solution containing local anesthetic and epinephrine—used to reduce blood loss—are introduced in both procedures as well. However, the similarities end there. The VASER® system utilizes ultrasound energy, which is designed to help disrupt and “shake free” the fat cells from their location without harming the surrounding tissue. Plus, the cannula used during the VASER® procedure has softer edges and broadly-spaced holes. Liposuction, on the other hand, relies on shaving fat away from the body physically with a cannula containing larger and closer spaced holes and sharp edges. The traditional liposuction cannula cannot distinguish between fat and nerves, vessels, and connective tissues, so there often can be damage caused to these areas in the process.
In addition to popular treatment areas like the love handles, stomach, and thighs, VASER® LipoSelection® also offers precision contouring in regions liposuction typically cannot correct. Fine shaping of the chin, neck, calves, and ankles are just a few examples of the potential options. Furthermore, downtime is typically faster and more comfortable since VASER® is designed to offer a gentler experience on the surrounding tissues.
It is important to note that VASER® LipoSelection® requires the use of advanced technology and additional specialized training. It is also a more time-consuming procedure. Ultimately, however, we feel the VASER® system offers substantially better results for our patients, so we exclusively offer this method for comprehensive fat reduction.
